Compulational fluid dynamics (CFD) in yacht building

Compulational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a branch of fluid mechanics that uses numerical methods to analyze problems that involve fluid flows. CFD has been around for a long time and has been used in the large commercial sector since the 1980s. But its application in the superyacht arena – for underwater appendages rather than simple hull form – was underutilized some years ago.

Outer Reef adds QR codes

QR codes codes will link to the owner’s manual

Scan your boat for advice.

American manufacturer Outer Reef Yachts has added QR codes to all equipment on its models. The Quik Code System can then be used to look up relevant pages in the owner’s manual.

When a QR code is scanned by a tablet or smartphone it directs the user to a particular web page. In this instance, the idea is that by scanning the code printed on a particular piece of equipment on board an Outer Reef Yacht, owners, captains and engineers will be presented with the related page of the manual. The new Quik Code System will be rolled out on all Outer Reef models worldwide.
